Principal's Message

Dear Current & Prospective South Families,

I am honored to be serving as the principal of South Elementary School. My educational background includes focuses in general and special education. In the past three decades, I have been involved in the education of students at the elementary, secondary, and college levels. I have a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in elementary and special education. At Grand Valley State University, I earned a master’s degree in special education and an educational specialist degree in educational administration. My PhD is from Western Michigan University and is in administration leadership.

I live in Zeeland with my husband, Jim. We have two grown sons. I love the change of seasons that West Michigan brings and I thoroughly enjoy the family atmosphere of the cities in this area; especially Grandville, Michigan!

South Elementary School is an amazing place to be! Our staff is focused on differentiated instruction that meets the needs of each student while challenging them to grow academically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically. Our school comfort dog, C.C., is a big part of helping our students feel comfortable and accepted. If you drive by our building you will likely notice our school garden. We value outdoor learning at South and also utilize the outdoor classroom, located in the woods behind our playground, to foster academic learning paired with an environmental appreciation.

I view educating students as a team effort between parents and schools and I am hopeful you will contact me about anything you’d like to discuss. My door is always open to sit down and chat. I welcome and encourage you to pull up a chair!
